An Aural History of Punk Rock
Many people can and have spelled out in words the history of punk music. The definitive work
which you should seek out is Please Kill Me, The Uncensored Oral History of
Punk by Legs McNeil which you can find on
Amazon. There was a companion one hour
documentary which aired on cable which I also happen to have.
I prefer to lay it out for you this way - here are the groups, and a sample mp3
from as many of them as I have. Most of this stuff is hard to find in a
store. Even on Ebay
sometimes it's hard to find a lot of this, as I have found. This is the
kind of obscure stuff that file sharing should really be about. But even
there, some of this stuff takes a lot of time to finally track down.
These are in mp3 format - they should play right from your browser if you click on them - or you can just right click and "save target as" to download it to your computer. The ones in red are the ones you can listen to/download. If it's plain black I don't yet have an mp3 for that group, or I just haven't found it in my office yet...but they're all coming soon.
