The small town of Twin Peaks is shaken up when the body of
the Homecoming Queen, Laura Palmer is discovered washed up on a
riverbank, wrapped in plastic. FBI Special Agent Dale Cooper is
called in when Ronnette Pulaski, who attended the same high school
as Laura, is found wandering on a bridge before lapsing into a coma.
Cooper believes there is a connection between Laura's death and the
death of another girl named Theresa Banks that happened a year
earlier. Meanwhile, the rebellious Audrey Horne ruins a business
deal for her father Benjamin; Twin Peaks sheriff Harry S. Truman
arrests Laura's boyfriend Bobby, who is secretly seeing a married
woman named Shelly; Laura's best friend Donna and secret boyfriend
James discover a mutual attraction; and Laura's mother has a
terrifying vision.

A.K.A. "Night of Decision" A.K.A. "Miss Twin Peaks"
James Marshall and Joan Chen does not appear in this episode.
To clear up the confusion with this episode title, Lynch/Frost
Productions only assigned episode numbers to the episodes, see
Episode
1 for more details. In Germany the last two episodes aired as a
telemovie. Only the second episodes was assigned a title to it (when
it first aired), so fans decided on "Miss Twin Peaks" on their own
for the first. When the show was re-run in Germany in 1996, the
first episode had it's own title on screen, "Die Nacht der
Entscheidung" which re-translates to "The Night of the Decision."

A major disappointment to casual fans, or people who never
watched the show, this film does not have the trademark Twin Peaks
humor, nor does it unravel the cliffhanger ending of the TV show
(Note: Fire Walk with Me had several scenes that took place
after the tv series but it was cut out of the movie). For hardcore
Twin Peaks fans it is an incredible, disturbing, revealing &
shocking experience.
Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me
focuses on the one week before Laura Palmer's death, so in essence,
it is a prequel.
It starts off with the murder of Teresa
Banks -- who is floating in a river bank, wrapped in plastic.
Special Agent Chester Desmond and F.B.I. Agent Sam Stanley are
brought in to investigate the murder in the small town of Twin Peaks
by Gordon Cole (played by David Lynch!).
After roughing it
up with some of the cocky local enforcements, Chester Desmond and
Sam Stanley get their way and slowly uncover bits and pieces of
clues that seem to go nowhere of the dead girl. While examining the
body, they notice she's missing a ring.
Agent Desmond wants
to bring the body back to the lab where it could be examined
properly and tells Agent Stanley to do it. Agent Desmond has a hunch
about the trailer park and tells Agent Stanley to go on ahead. Agent
Desmond is drawn to a trailer near the end and notices a small green
ring on the bottom of the trailer. He grabs it and appears to
disappear...
Gordon Cole then assigns Special Agent Dale
Cooper to the case to assist Agent Stanley. Agent Stanley tells him
what he knew about Agent Desmond's led in the trailer park, and
Special Agent Dale Cooper is too drawn to the end of the trailer
park. When he reaches there, a trailer has droven off and has a
hunch that the killer will strike again.
Fast forward to a
year. We see Laura Palmer and most of her friends in their daily
lives, family, and etc. It shows how Laura came into contact with
"BOB", how agent Cooper got the assignment, and several other little
back stories.
It is overall, an incredibly confusing, yet
disturbing fun movie when you sit down and figure it all
out.

NOTE: Dates: The tagline for Fire Walk with Me was
"This is the last seven days of Laura Palmer".
Reportedly Lara Flynn Boyle did not reprise her role as Donna
because of the nude scenes. She was replaced by Moira Kelly.
The original cut of the movie was nearly four hours. Executives
told them to re-edited it for two hours (so at theaters they could
play it more than three times in a day). A lot of scenes with other
characters were filmed but was cut out from the final movie. You
could read more about the deleted scenes
here.
Note the very first thing happening in the movie. It was an axe
hitting a tv set... was this a clue that David Lynch was upset when
his tv series was cancelled? |
