St. Lucy, died
in 304, was a rich woman of Sicily, she refused marriage and
gave her money to the poor. Her rejected suitor denounced her as a Christian
and she was judged and condemned to a brothel but was miraculously protected.
And the authorities, after failing to burn her at the stake, had her stabbed
in the throat with a sword.
